It is intended for the use as an Fully Absorbable Harmostat in various fields of surgery. GelPRO absorbs approximately 40-50 times of it’s weight of blood or water and adheres easily to the bleeding site. The uniform porosity guaranteed a favorable harmostasis. When implanted in vivo, it is completely absorbed within 3-4 weeks. In addition, because of its neutral character and nature, it may be used as a carrier for any drug. It is supplied in several sizes. It is packaged individually in double blister packaging, Gamma Sterilized, and is for single use only.
Gelatin sponges have been used in clinical practice as hemostats for more than 50 years and has been proven to be effective and safe as other types of haemostats.
GelPRO Gelatin Sponge has hemostatic properties. GelPro Gelatin Sponge absorbs completely with little tissue reaction, when excessive amounts are not used. When used in appropriate amounts, GelPRO gelatin Sponge is absorbed completely within 4 to 6 weeks. In an animal implantation study, tissue reactions were classified as negligible when observed macroscopically, and moderate when observed microscopically with GelPRO Sponge. When applied to bleeding mucosal regions, it liquerfies within 2 to 5 days.
GelPRO must be stored in a dry place with a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture and the expiry date is printed on the packaging.
